Exiting Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed he is to begin talks of becoming the next coach at Manchester City.

Pellegrini ended his long career in Spain with a 4-1 defeat to La Liga champions Barcelona, leaving Malaga in sixth position in the table.

The former Real Madrid and Villarreal boss has long been rumoured with the vacant position at the Etihad, but now that the season is completed he will sit down with City officials and listen to what they have to offer.

However, the 59-year-old Chilean again denied he has already signed with the Premier League club.

"When I reach an agreement I will tell you," Pellegrini said. "I have an agreement to start conversations with Manchester City.

"Some rumours will be right, others won't, but I have kept my focus on Malaga until now.

"Now the league is over we will start from Monday to look forward and to see where my future lies.

"It is going to be hard for me to leave Spain after nine years.

"It's a country that has treated me marvellously well. An important era of my life ends, and my future will surely take me to another country."
