US Open champion Rose credits Scott's Masters victory

Justin Rose has admitted that victory at the Masters for close friend Adam Scott was a catalyst behind his US Open triumph.

Rose became the first Englishman since Tony Jacklin in 1970 to win the second major of the season, and he revealed Scott's own major breakthrough at Augusta last month helped spur him on.

"I took a lot of encouragement from Adam Scott," Rose said. "He sent me a fantastic text after the Masters which said: 'Your time is coming soon'."

He added with a smile: "He is a very wise man."

And it is Scott who Rose replaces in the world rankings as the 32-year-old moves up to a career-high world No. 3.

Runners-up Phil Mickelson and Jason Day are also big movers, with the American jumping from tenth to sixth, while Australian Day leaps ten places to 16th.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy remain in the top two positions, despite finishing 13- and 14-over par respectively.
