US Open champion Justin Rose is still in the hunt at the Travelers Championship after a second successive 68 means the Englishman will begin the final day just three off the lead.

Rose, who became the first Englishman to win the American national championship when lifting his maiden major at Merion on Sunday, went birdie-bogey-birdie between holes four and six before back-to-back birdies at 12 and 13 put the 32-year-old well in the mix. But another bogey at 15 blotted an otherwise decent round.

Bubba Watson, who won his maiden PGA Tour title in this event, carded three birdies in the opening nine to reach 13-under and lead by three over his rivals - but dropped shots at 13, 15 and 17 saw the 2012 Masters champion card a level-par 70 and fall back into a tie at the top with Charley Hoffman (66) and Graham DeLaet (65).

The trio lead Chris Stroud (66) and Nick O'Hern (68) by one, with Ken Duke (65) a further stroke back. Rose is joined at seven-under by Richard Lee (66), Nicholas Thompson (66), Jim Herman (67), JJ Henry (68), Hunter Mahan (70) and Tommy Gainey (70).

Padraig Harrington, who had put himself well in the mix at the halfway stage with back-to-back scores of 66, fell back to six-under par after a 72 and the Irishman has it all to do on Sunday.

Brits Russell Knox (69) and Brian Davis (66) are at five-under par, with Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter (67) a shot back.
