Matt Fitzpatrick's dream year continues after the Sheffield-born teenager was called up to the Great Britain & Ireland squad for next month's Walker Cup match against the United States.

Fitzpatrick, who earned the Silver Medal at the Open Championship before becoming the first Englishman to win the US Amateur Championship for more than a century, will be part of the 10-man team to take on the US in the Ryder Cup-style match play event for amateurs.

Joining Fitzpatrick in the side is Ireland's Kevin Phelan, who was just four shots off the lead after the opening round of this year's US Open before going on to tie for 61st.

Fellow Irishman Gavin Moynihan is also in, while Pontypridd's Rhys Pugh is the only Welsh player to have been selected.

The six final places have gone to Englishman Garrick Porteous, who won the prestigious Amateur Championship in June, and compatriots Nathan Kimsey, Max Orrin, Neil Raymond, Callum Shinkwin and Jordan Smith.

Two more Englishmen, Greg Eason and Ryan Evans, have been selected as reserves, meaning there will be no Scottish representation in the squad.

The 2013 Walker Cup will take place at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, New York, on September 7 and 8.
