Luiten leads Jimenez at KLM Open

Joost Luiten leads Miguel Angel Jimenez by one shot at the KLM Open after he scored a four-under-66 at Zandvoort.

Jimenez had been leading the tournament since the opening round, but after the Spaniard hit a 70, Luiten took advantage to head into the final day of the event with a slight edge on 10-under as he looks to claim his second title of the season, adding to his triumph at the Lyoness Open in June.

Luiten, who is aiming to become the first Dutchman to win the KLM Open for the first time since Maarten Lafeber a decade ago, hit six birdies but dropped two shots on the par-4 first and par-4 13th.

"The first nine was really, really tough," Luiten said on a wet and windy day on the course.

"It was raining really hard and the rain came in sideways. [There were] a lot of crosswinds. It was just all about surviving the front nine really and on the back nine the rain went away and it became a little bit easier.

"You can feel everybody is behind you and cheering you on. It's great to see all the people out there even on a day like this."

Jimenez could only manage one birdie through the round, which came on the 13th, and could become the oldest winner on the European Tour at the age of 49 were he to be crowned KLM Open champion for a second time.

Julien Quesne and Damien McGrane are eight-under, while English duo Oliver Fisher and Simon Dyson, who had been one shot off the lead after the second round on Friday after equalling the course record, are three shots off the lead.
