Rory McIlroy has settled his acrimonious split from Oakley, with the sportswear firm having claimed that they should have been allowed to contest his offer from Nike earlier this year.

McIlroy had said earlier this month that the number of off-course distractions this season had affected his form, and that he had seen enough lawyers to last him a lifetime.

This is now one battle that he can put behind him, although another one with his former management company is ongoing.

"The legal claims brought by Oakley against Rory McIlroy in California have been amicably settled to the satisfaction of both parties," a statement released on behalf of McIlroy said.

"I am delighted the case is now behind me," said McIlroy.
