Stadler earns maiden win to join dad at Augusta

Kevin Stadler carded a final-round 68 at the Phoenix Open to win his first PGA Tour event and earn a spot at The Masters alongside father Craig, who triumphed at Augusta in 1982.

The Stadlers become the ninth father-son duo to win on the PGA Tour, and the first since Bill Haas joined dad Jay in the winners' circle in 2010.

Stadler was level with Bubba Watson on the 18th tee, but Watson missed a five-foot par putt that would have forced a play-off and fell back to 15-under and a tie for second with Graeme DeLaet.

Hunter Mahan and Japanese hotshot Hideki Matsuyama finished at 14-under, while Charles Howell III carded a round-of-the-day 65 to finish in a share for sixth alongside Brendan Steele and Ryan Moore.

On Watson's missed putt, Stadler, victorious in his 239th PGA Tour start, said: "It's been a long time coming, so I'll take it any way I can get it."

Dad Craig also confirmed this year's Masters will be his last - he has been waiting for his son to qualify so he could play alongside him on Augusta's hallowed turf.

Martin Laird was the highest-placed Brit at 7-under, while Englishmen Brian Davis and David Lynn finished at 4-under and 2-under respectively.

Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter failed to make the cut.
