Carin Koch has been appointed captain of the European Solheim Cup team that will defend its title against the United States in Germany next year.

The Swede will lead a team seeking an unprecedented hat-trick of wins for Europe at Golf Club St Leon-Rot from September 18 to 20, 2015.

Carin Koch's Solheim Cup record

  • 2000: W3 H0 L0 (Europe won 14½ - 11½)
  • 2002: W4 H1 L0 (US won 15½ - 12½)
  • 2003: W1 H1 L2 (Europe won 17½ - 10½)
  • 2005: W2 H1 L1 (US won 15½ - 12½)
  • Total: W10 H3 L3 (11.5 points from 16)

Last year, Europe claimed a historic first win in the United States with an 18-10 victory at Colorado Golf Club after ending the Americans' dominance in the competition in 2011 at Killeen Castle.

"I am extremely delighted and honoured," Koch, a vice captain to Lotte Neumann in 2013, said. "I cannot wait to stand with the team on the first tee next September to start our quest for the hat-trick of wins.

"Being vice-captain to Lotte, I once again experienced the thrill of the Solheim Cup matches which are unlike any other tournament in professional golf.

"I look forward to working with the German team at Golf Club St Leon-Rot for the next year-and-a-half to put on the best Solheim Cup ever."

Juli Inkster will lead the US team after being named as captain last month.
