Cabrera rallies for Greenbrier win

Angel Cabrera nearly gave away the Greenbrier Classic on Sunday with back-to-back bogeys on the inward nine, but instead he regrouped with a birdie on No.17 to hold off George McNeill.

The Argentine recorded a second successive 64 to win by two shots in West Virginia, securing his first non-major victory on the PGA Tour. Cabrera finished on 16 under to end his barren run, having won the 2009 Masters and 2007 US Open at Oakmont.

With overnight leader Billy Hurley dropping back after several bogeys, Cabrera reeled off three birdies on his front nine before consecutive birdies on 11 and 12 saw him overtake clubhouse leader McNeill - whose stunning round of 61 included a hole-in-one at the eighth, along with seven birdies.

After chipping in with his approach at the 13th, it looked like Cabrera had all but sealed victory on 16 under with five holes to play.

Back-to-back bogeys left Cabrera's advantage at just one shot when he arrived at the 16th, however, but he arrested the slide with a par before birdieing the 17th.

Cabrera then missed a birdie putt on 18th but still secured the win. It brought him another green jacket to go along with his one from Augusta.

McNeill had to settle for second place but earned a qualifying place for the Open. However, he may not make the trip to Royal Liverpool, having pulled out of next week's John Deere Classic because of a family illness.
