Kaymer withdraws from Johnnie Walker Championship

Martin Kaymer has opted to pull out of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles next week after securing his maiden Major victory at the US PGA Championship.
The German's dramatic triumph at Whistling Straits over the weekend, where he triumphed in a play-off against Bubba Watson, guaranteed him a spot in the European Ryder Cup team.
With his place in Colin Montgomerie's squad now assured, Kaymer has decided to rest instead of taking part in the first of the two Ryder Cup qualifying events that are coming up on the European Tour.
Meanwhile, Edoardo Molinari has confirmed that he will play at Gleneagles as he bids to surge into the automatic qualification places. The Italian, who won the Scottish Open this year, currently requires one of Colin Montgomerie's three wildcard picks - and he has taken measures to ensure that the Scot will view him in a favourable light.
"Colin at the beginning of the year said he would like all the players to play Celtic Manor and Gleneagles," Molinari said. "I will play both as I think it is good to show you are making an effort to make the team. I don't think that will make a difference, but I am making every effort to make the team and that's all I can do."
