Hanson into Ryder Cup places with Czech Open win

Peter Hanson looks set to be a member of Europe's Ryder Cup team after he propelled himself into the automatic qualification places by triumphing in a three-way play-off at the Czech Open.
The Swede held a four-stroke lead over the rest of the field at the beginning of the day, but he saw that disintegrate as he shot a two-over 74 that put him alongside Gary Boyd and Peter Lawrie at ten under.
Hanson held his nerve in the sudden-death battle, sinking a 15-foot birdie putt at the second play-off hole to push himself into the top nine of the European points list.
"I thought I was going to have to shoot under par, but I was lucky enough in the end," Hanson said. "Today was really hard, it was a rollercoaster and I lost my head a bit.
"I knew that I had to win [to make the top nine in the points list] so to pull that off is unbelievable."
Hanson's triumph was tough on Boyd and Lawrie, who both propelled themselves into contention with superlative rounds. Lawrie made his intentions clear from the start by securing an eagle at the first on his way to a 66, while Boyd signed for a 68.
Simon Dyson finished two strokes behind Hanson after bogeying the par-five 16th, while Miguel Angel Jimenez - who will not play at the final Ryder Cup qualifying event next week, the Johnnie Walker Championship - faces an anxious wait to see if he will be at the biennial event in October after finishing at seven under.
