Tiger Woods will not return to action at the Accenture World Match Play after missing the deadline to declare his availability.

Speculation in recent weeks had suggested the world No. 1 could end his absence in Arizona, but there was no word from Woods, his advisors or the organisers of the tournament.

He had until Friday evening to make himself available, but the deadline passed without word from Woods and he will not be in the 64-strong field.

The tournament will also be without golf's second biggest draw as Phil Mickelson said he would not play in order to spend time with his family.

Steve Stricker, the world No. 2, will start the event at Dove Mountain as the No. 1 seed. England's Lee Westwood will be the second seed and the top seed in his quarter of the draw.

Thanks to the absence of Woods and Mickelson, Englishmen Chris Wood and Ross McGowan, will make their first appearances in the tournament, which starts on Wednesday.
