Stefano Coletti won the final race of the season in style with victory in the Adbu Dhabi feature at Yas Marina.
Coletti passed pole man Arthur Pic on the first lap and led for the rest of the race to record his second victory of the season. Pic was overly defensive off the line and Coletti capitalised, taking the lead around the outside of the first corner. Felipe Nasr then picked off Pic at the end of the backstraight to slip into second. GP2 champion-elect Jolyon Palmer, who had started seventh, suffered his first retirement of the season as he spun at the Turn 8 chicane and stalled his engine.
The biggest battle was the one for second in the drivers' championship between Nasr and Stoffel Vandoorne. With Nasr second in the race, Vandoorne needed sixth to secure second in the championship. He waited two laps until the finish to take the place he needed, dispatching Johnny Cecotto Jr with a superb late braking manoeuvre with two laps to go to move into sixth. The points he received for the fastest lap he set on lap 16 ultimately gave him a safe buffer in the standings.
Cecotto had already lost places to Stephane Richelmi and Mitch Evans on consecutive laps as he started to struggle on his tyres. Richelmi ended the race under investigation by the stewards from the initial pass, after he refused to yield his places after he and Evans cut a corner while passing Cecotto. Evans, meanwhile, gave the place back to Cecotto and passed him at the same point a lap later. Cecotto was chased to the line by Ferrari junior Raffaele Marciello but he just clung on to record seventh position.
