Stefano Coletti took a lights to flag victory at the GP2 Asia sprint race in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, as feature race winner Jules Bianchi solidified his early lead in the championship with a fourth place finish.

Coletti made a near perfect start from pole on the top-eight reversed grid and from that point onwards never came under serious pressure. Sam Bird had started from second but was jumped by Giedo van der Garde into the first corner, only for van der Garde to be issued with a drive through penalty because a mechanic was still tending to his car seconds before the warm-up lap.

Bird resumed in second place when van der Garde turned for the pits, but then spun out of the race with just five laps remaining, scuppering a decent result. As a result Josef Kral came through for second with Marcus Ericsson completing the podium in third.

Bianchi was again the star of the show, picking his way through the field from eighth to fourth. However, his passing move on the final lap saw him overtake Davide Valsecchi with all four wheels off the track, which may well be penalised after Max Chilton was slapped with a 20-second fine for a similar incident in the feature race. If Bianchi is penalised it will be a bitter end to an otherwise brilliant weekend.

Michael Herck rounded out the top six points scoring positions after a last lap overtaking move on Fabio Leimer.
