The final round of the GP2 Asia Series will now take place at Imola in Italy, replacing the two cancelled rounds scheduled for Bahrain this month.

Political unrest in Bahrain meant rounds two and three of the series were called off, leaving the organisers facing the prospect of the championship being decided on last month's Abu Dhabi event alone. However, now that the team's freight has returned to Europe, GP2 boss Bruno Michel has confirmed a stand-alone round at Imola will take place on March 18, 19 and 20 ahead of testing for the main European GP2 Series in April.

"I know that it is quite peculiar to have Imola added to the GP2 Asia calendar, but the special circumstances had us try and find the best solution for our teams, drivers and fans," he said. "It was important for everyone to have one last round, and with the tests in Europe starting soon and the logistical requirements, we had to find a European venue. We had to be quick and think on our feet and we are happy to return to Imola. The new layout and infrastructures make it the perfect place to host the final round of the 2011 GP2 Asia Series."

Ferrari Driver Academy recruit Jules Bianchi currently leads the championship for ART after winning the Abu Dhabi feature race. Renault reserve driver Romain Grosjean is just two points behind in second place.
