Fabio Leimer took his maiden GP2 win with a lights-to-flag victory in the feature race of the series final in Abu Dhabi, finishing ahead of Luiz Razia and Joylon Palmer.

The stand-alone race, which featured a mix of experienced drivers and rookies, took place on the Yas Marina circuit on Saturday morning with 2011 GP2 regulars filling the top five positions. Leimer, who switched from Rapax to Racing Engineering for the event, never looked under pressure and was gifted an early lead when Dani Clos and Josef Kral came together behind him at the start.

The collision but Clos out of the race and dropped Kral down the order while allowing Razia and Palmer to move up to second and third, where they stayed for the remainder of the race. Esteban Gutierrez looked capable of challenging Palmer for third but had to pit early to replace his rear wing, which was damaged by contact with Stefano Coletti on the first lap.

Marcus Ericsson also put pressure on Palmer towards the end of the race but has to settle for fourth ahead of Kevin Ceccon and the highest finishing rookie Tom Dillmann. Antonio Felix da Costa finished just behind in seventh with James Colado picking up the crucial eighth place that will give him pole position tomorrow.
