Jenson Button does not think he will make Q3 in qualifying at the British Grand Prix, describing his McLaren as "just slow" around the Silverstone circuit.

McLaren had targeted its home race as a turning point for the development of the MP4-28, but Button was only 11th fastest in FP2 at Silverstone and 1.5s off the pace. He said the car felt okay from the cockpit but that lap time was simply lacking.

"The car doesn't feel too bad out there but we're just slow," he said. "It's less bumpy than Canada but I think everybody is struggling a little bit with the bumps because of where they in the apexes, but on the straights we don't have the issues we had in Canada. We still need to resolve a few things with the balance but we're still going to be a long way from the front."

Asked if Q3 was possible in qualifying, he said: "I'd say very unlikely at the moment."

To illustrate the car's problems, Button said he was struggling to take the first corner in top gear.

"I can't run in seventh even through turn one because it just doesn't pull. We're a long way off. I'm one and half seconds off the quickest car so that's a good reason to be disappointed."
