Munster will be without new signing Tyler Bleyendaal for an extended period of time as he requires neck surgery.

Bleyendaal was playing for Canterbury in the ITM Cup and was due to join Munster in October but he is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a prolapsed disc in his neck. Canterbury have not put a time frame on how long he will be out, saying the "long-term prognosis of the injury is uncertain until surgery has been completed".

"I am working with Munster to plan the rehab process and I'm looking forward to contributing to their campaign once I have fully recovered," Bleyendaal said. "I would obviously love to be playing this final season out with my team-mates, but I hope to be able to continue to contribute to this team in other ways off the field."

And Ulster will also be without Iain Henderson until the New Year as he needs an operation on his hip. The news means he will miss Ireland's November Tests.
