A mercurial, yet sometimes infuriating back, Clement Poitrenaud has become a fixture of French rugby since his Test debut in 2001.
A long-time servant of Toulouse, he made his Heineken Cup bow during the 2000-01 season and tasted Top 14 success in the same season.
He has made two Rugby World Cup squads, in 2003 and 2007, and also played one game of France's 2004 Six Nations Grand Slam.
He endured humiliation as he cost Toulouse the Heineken Cup in 2004. After shepherding a kick from Wasps scrum-half Rob Howley into the in-goal area, he waited for the ball to go dead only for the Welsh international to steal in and score. Nevertheless, he has tasted victory in Europe's leading club competition twice, in 2003 and 2005.
Poitrenaud bounced in and out of the France team regularly and having missed the 2011 Rugby World Cup he was included in the French training squad for the 2012 Six Nations.
And following an injury to Toulouse team-mate Maxime Medard, Poitrenaud found himself thrust into the France side for their re-arranged clash with Ireland. The Toulouse fullback kept his spot in the team for the final two matches of their campaign.
