Scarlets fly-half Stephen Jones is facing a race to be fit for Wales' Six Nations opener against England after picking up a knee injury in last weekend's Heineken Cup win over Benetton Treviso.

The former British & Irish Lion was forced from the field after 17 minutes at Parc y Scarlets and will undergo a 'precautionary scan' on Wednesday to confirm the full extent of the damage.

The region's medical staff have examined the problem and their initial assessment points to a minor knee ligament strain and a lay-off of up to four weeks. Wales open their Six Nations account at the Millennium Stadium on February 4.

Meanwhile, Wales skipper Matthew Rees will undergo a late fitness test prior to Saturday's rematch with Treviso as he is currently carrying a minor adductor strain.
