South African duo Johann Muller and Heinrich Brussow will face a final fitness test on Friday to determine whether they will travel with the 27-man squad for the Tri-Nations Tests against Australia and New Zealand.

Muller sat out training on both Tuesday and Wednesday with a hamstring strain along with Brussow whose recovery from a knee injury is being closely monitored. South Africa coach Peter de Villiers said on Tuesday he was not going to rush Brussow back into the side if he had any doubts over his star flanker's fitness.

The pair both undertook light running during training on Wednesday in a bid to prove their case to South Africa's backroom staff. Prop forward Coenie Oosthuizen took full part in Wednesday's training, having recovered from an ankle injury.

The Springboks play their first match in the Tri-Nations against Australia in Sydney on July 23 before facing New Zealand in Wellington on July 30.
