Ferris targets August comeback

Flanker Stephen Ferris has handed Ireland a boost after announcing that he aims to return to the national side during the World Cup warm-up matches. Ferris missed Ireland's 2011 Six Nations campaign and the second-half of Ulster's season due to a knee injury but the flanker maintains his injury ravaged days are now behind him. Ferris - who will face stiff competition for a backrow berth in the guise of Sean O'Brien - has also thanked his club side Ulster for their support. "I've had some dark days but hopefully I'll be back in action in the next two to three weeks and will be involved in some Ireland games," Ferris told BBC Sport."It's been hard work but I feel like I'm fit to return." "I'm glad to be off the treadmill and back on the pitch and I've been making some serious progress in running, fitness and conditioning. There is more work involved in getting fit again after injury than there is when you are fit as every day involves rehab and physio. "Ulster have been behind me all the way and have given me great support." Ireland start their World Cup preparations with a Test against Scotland at Murrayfield on August 6 before facing a tough ask against France in Bordeaux the following week. They then play their Six Nations rivals back at Lansdowne Road on August 20 before facing England in their final Test prior to the World Cup on August 27. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
