Scotland prop Jon Welsh has been ruled out of their tour in the southern hemisphere due to a shoulder injury.

With Scotland still revelling in their 9-6 win over Australia on Tuesday, the news of Welsh's injury will come as a blow to Andy Robinson's side. Welsh was on the bench for their match with the Wallabies and Scotland have opted to call up Glasgow Warriors' Moray Low in his place.

But while they are bidding farewell to Welsh, they are welcoming Max Evans to the southern hemisphere. Evans turned out for Castres in last weekend's Top 14 Orange semi-final and following his side's exit from the competition, flew out immediately to take his place within the squad.

Evans now faces a tough ask breaking into the Scotland side but admits that it is out of his hands.

"All I can do is train well and put my hand up for selection," Evans said. "The coaches will decide whatever they see best and I will have to see what happens. Any opportunity to play for Scotland, and any Scotland game missed, is upsetting.

"At the same time, I got to play in the semi-final of the Top 14, which is a first for me as well. There are not too many complaints about that. There was maybe a brief moment when I was not sure if I would be playing against Toulouse [in the semi-final] or Australia, but it was much easier for me to focus on the game with Castres and then if there was any change it would look after itself. I had my bags packed just in case but it was easy to focus on the club game."
