Toulon closed in on an automatic Top 14 semi-final spot with a 37-21 win over Castes at Stade Felix Mayol on Saturday.

The triple European champions missed out on a try bonus point, outscoring the visitors by five tries to three.

They were already 23-7 up by the interval, following tries from Steffon Armitage, Xavier Chiocci and Josua Tuisova, with Romain Marital going over for Castres.

Tuisova crossed again soon after the restart before Leigh Halfpenny scored Toulon's fifth try, but they were denied the bonus point that would have put them beyond Clermont's reach after late tries from Rory Kockott and Romain Cabannes for Castres.

Clermont bounced back from the disappointment of their Champions Cup final defeat by beating Grenoble 37-17 at the Stade des Alpes.

Elsewhere, Toulouse stayed in touch with the top two after scoring nine tries in a 67-19 victory over Brive, with Yoann Huget scoring a hat-trick.

La Rochelle boosted their survival hopes with a 16-16 draw at Lyon, which confirmed the hosts' relegation.

Bordeaux-Begles saw off Oyonnax 26-23, while Montpellier kept up the pressure in the play-off race by beating Bayonne 33-16.
