Ulster have suffered a blow ahead of their clash with the Leicester Tigers on Saturday with the news that Paddy Wallace is set for a spell on the sidelines. The Ireland international has undergone surgery to repair tendon damage to his left thumb and is expected to miss between six and eight weeks of action. The news will come as a huge blow to the province as it looks almost certain that the 29-cap international will miss the rest of their Heineken Cup campaign. The 32-year old sustained the injury during Ulster's 16-11 win over Clermont Auvergne at Ravenhill last Saturday and although the medical staff hoped he would be able to avoid surgery, the centre underwent the surgeon's knife on Thursday. His Ireland team-mate Stephen Ferris, however, is expected to be fit for the trip to Welford Road despite sitting out the final five minutes of their Heineken Cup opener with a knee injury. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
