Glasgow Warriors have announced the short-term signing of Pumas prop German Araoz.

The tight-head joins on a three-month contract and linked up with his new team-mates today after passing a medical on Monday evening. He will not feature for the Scottish team in their Heineken Cup match with Ulster this weekend but will provide cover in the Warriors front-row for their RaboDirect PRO12 campaign.

The Warriors are currently in the midst of a front-row injury crisis with Ed Kalman (back), Moray Low (knee), John Welsh (shoulder) and Pat MacArthur (foot) all sidelined. Araoz did not feature for Argentina during the Rugby Championship but played in their wins over Brazil and Chile in May.

Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend was delighted to announce Araoz's signing. "We're very happy to be bringing on board another international prop at what is an intense juncture in the season," Townsend said. "German is a strong scrummager and tackler who will give us an additional option in an area of the team where we have sustained a significant number of injuries.

"[Tonga loose-head] Ofa Fainga'anuku has given us a boost by coming in and hitting the ground running, making an immediate impression, and we're looking forward to working with German to help him do likewise."
