Gear signs two-year Clermont deal
June 16, 2015

Chiefs wing Hosea Gear is returning to France after signing a two-year deal with Clermont. Gear, 31, returned to New Zealand this year after stints in France and Japan with the intention of reclaiming an All Blacks jersey. However, the 14-Test wing has received few opportunities, making just six appearances.

Gear's Tests came between 2008-12 before he left for a season at Toulouse and then linked with Honda Heat in Japan.

Clermont were the beaten finalists in both the European Cup and French Top 14 championship. In a statement, Clermont said their recruitment drive for next season was now over. They couldn't confirm if Highlanders wing Waisake Naholo will play for them next season.

One of Super Rugby's stand-out players this year, Naholo is trying to pull out of a deal agreed with the French club in January.
