A former Australia Sevens international, Shipperley played his first game of Super Rugby for the Reds during their march to the title in 2011. Possessing express pace and a fine step, he quickly settled into life at that level, being pulled from the Australia Under-20 squad to provide cover during Queensland's run to the title. The following year, with the Reds again making the play-offs, Shipperley became a regular out wide, winning a call-up to the Australia squad for the 2012 Rugby Championship.
