Roger Lewis became chief executive of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) in 2006, following the departure of David Moffett. Following Moffett's departure there was speculation that the position had become redundant, but pressure from Welsh clubs led to Lewis' appointment.
He is also now a director of the European Cup and Celtic League. The position as chief executive with the WRU has been Lewis' first rugby position, having previously found success in the worlds of TV and music. In the 1980s Lewis was a producer at Capital FM and later the Head of Music at Radio 1. From here he took up a position with EMI in 1990 as a managing director before becoming World Wide President of Decca Records in 1997.
He continued in the world of music with a job as managing director of Classic FM and its parent company GWR Group for six years between 1998 and 2004, before taking a position with ITV Wales. Upon his return to Wales Lewis became president of his hometown club, Cefn Cribwr RFC.
His tenure as chief executive has taken in the 2008 Grand Slam as well as the controversial plans to open a fifth Welsh region, possibly in North Wales, to improve the future Welsh player base.
