Timoci Nagusa is one of a number of surprise omissions from the Fiji squad for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

The 24-year-old winger played a key role in Montpellier's remarkable run to the final of the Top 14 play-offs but has been omitted from his country's 30-strong panel. Ifereimi Rawaqa, Seru Rabeni, Graham Dewes, Sireli Naqelevuki, Taniela Rawaqa and Josh Matavesi have also been overlooked.

However, there is a place in the squad for Leone Nakarawa, whose participation in the tournament had been in doubt for diplomatic reasons. As a member of the Fijian armed forces he would have been refused entry into New Zealand because of sanctions placed upon Fiji following Voreqe Bainimarama's military coup in December 2006. However, Nakarawa resigned from the army and was therefore granted an exemption by the New Zealand government.

Elsewhere, Newport Gwent Dragons prop Deacon Manu was confirmed as captain of a side that features 21 players based overseas.
