France will host the 2014 Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup finals, European Rugby Cup ltd has announced.

The venues are yet to be confirmed but the ERC has said that the matches will take place over the weekend of the 23-25 May. It will be the fourth time that France has hosted the Heineken Cup final and the sixth for the finale of the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Next season's Heineken Cup could be the last with the six constituent Unions currently in discussions regarding the future of the tournament. The English and French clubs have served their notice to the ERC citing an unfair qualification process that they deem is weighted in favour of the RaboDirect PRO12 sides. The six Unions met in Dublin last week to thrash out the future of the tournament and talks will continue in Rome next month.

The first time that France hosted the Heineken Cup final was back in the 1997-98 season when Bath beat Brive 19-18 in Bordeaux. In the 2000-01 campaign, Leicester upset Parisian giants Stade Francais 34-30 at the Parc des Princes and in the 2009-10 season, Toulouse beat fellow Top 14 side Biarritz 21-19 at the Stade de France.
