Cardiff Blues boss Phil Davies has urged Jamie Roberts to re-sign with the region despite him being linked with a big money cross-Channel move.

The British & Irish Lions and Wales centre recently revealed that he is unsure where his future lies and has reportedly courted the interest of Toulouse in the past. With his contract up at the end of the current season, Roberts' signature is likely to be in demand despite his lack of playing time over the past two years.

Roberts scored his first try for the Blues in more than two years at the weekend and has seen his past couple of seasons disrupted through injury. With the World Cup three years away, Davies believes that for the good of Roberts' career, he should stay put in the RaboDirect PRO12 rather than switch to the rigours of the Top 14.

"We know where we are with it and Jamie does too," Davies told Wales Online. "It's a big year for him. He's finishing his medical studies. There's a World Cup in three years time and I think this is the best place for him. It's a tough league in France.

"But it's his decision really. It's very important we keep our best players and Jamie's no different. He's doing well for us at the moment. He's worked really hard over the summer to recover from knee surgery and he has bought into what we are looking to do here.

"Jamie has been great and we want to keep him, that's for sure. He is a world-class player and a big totem pole for us. I'm hoping we will get everything sorted out as soon as we possibly can."
