Premiership Rugby (PRL) has announced a new Sevens tournament - named the World Club 7s - which will take place at Twickenham on August 17 and 18.

The tournament will feature domestic clubs with three from the Aviva Premiership forming a quarter of the 12 teams on show. And also featuring in the tournament are New Zealand's Auckland Blues, South Africa's Western Province, Australia's ACT Brumbies and Argentina's Buenos Aires.

And sides from New York and Los Angeles are also journeying to Twickenham alongside one from Moscow, the city hosting this summer's World Cup.

The three Premiership teams will qualify for the tournament through the annual JP Morgan Sevens and PRL's CEO Mark McCafferty is relishing the chance to see some of the world's top sides running out at Twickenham.

"Negotiations are continuing with other teams but already we have a mouth-watering two days of world class 7s heading for Twickenham in August," McCafferty said. "These teams will be joined by Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs, who will have qualified from the well-established J.P. Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s, which will kick off at Kingsholm on 1 August this year.

"We are also committed to contributing to the success of developing nations so you will see two Russian sides in Twickenham, going toe to toe with teams from the top rugby nations."
