Joe Schmidt has added wing duo Craig Gilroy and Simon Zebo to his Ireland training squad ahead of the upcoming Six Nations as his injuries concerns continue to grow.

The additions were confirmed as Schmidt waits for news on Keith Earls, who picked up an injury during Heineken Cup duty for Munster at the weekend. The Ireland boss named a 44-man squad last week but both Gilroy and Zebo were omitted as they have only just returned from long-term injuries.

A statement read: "Earls was injured in Munster's final Heineken Cup game and is undergoing a scan today to determine the extent of the injury. A further update will be available once the results are known.

"In the meantime Craig Gilroy and Simon Zebo have been added to the training squad and joined up with the main contingent today [Monday].

"A number of players reported to the Ireland training camp with bumps and bruises following the weekend. Their training workload will be managed over the coming days but none are considered injury concerns."
