Gloucester pair Tavis Knoyle and Sila Puafisi have been banned after being sent off during last weekend's Premiership defeat at home to Bath.

Knoyle was handed a four-week ban for striking Leroy Houston after Gloucester had conceded a late penalty-try, his action triggering a mass brawl. Prop Puafisi received a one-week suspension after a dangerous tackle on Nick Abendanon. Both players pleaded guilty.

In a fractious match, referee Tim Wigglesworth also yellow carded five players. All have escaped censure but additional retrospective yellow cards are to be issued to Bath pair Abendanon and Paul James for striking Knoyle and a stamp on Shaun Knight respectively.

The problems for Gloucester did not end there as incidents after the match when the officials were abused by fans and a plastic bottle was thrown at Wigglesworth are also being investigated.

"I don't think anybody could look at it and say it was the greatest advert for the game, both in terms of the things that happened off and on the pitch," said RFU chief executive Ian Ritchie.
