Wallabies back Rob Horne has spurned the advances of European rugby and re-signed with the Australian Rugby Union and NSW Waratahs until 2017.

Horne was reportedly in the sights of Irish giants Munster but opted to remain on home soil to chase more success with the Waratahs.

"The opportunity to play for NSW and represent my state has been a huge honour, and I'm looking forward to creating many more cherished memories at the Waratahs," said Horne. "The experience of last season and the outpouring of support from all NSW rugby supporters was incredible, and something I hope we can continue to grow."

Originally a centre by trade, Horne was moved to the wing by Waratahs coach Michael Cheika last year and hasn't looked back. A Wallabies recall soon followed and he now stands in contention for a spot in Australia's 31-man for Rugby World Cup 2015.

Cheika said Horne had become an integral part of the Waratahs set-up and was thrilled to see the 25-year-old commit himself to the franchise, and Australian rugby, long term.

"Rob's been an invaluable asset to the Waratahs over the last two years since I've had the pleasure of coaching him," Cheika said. "The next two years of his career here will see him become a real leader within our squad. We are really pleased that he will continue playing his rugby in the sky blue jersey."
