Glasgow ended a frustrating European adventure on a positive note and head coach Gregor Townsend was "delighted" with the workmanlike 22-5 victory over Racing 92 at Kilmarnock's Rugby Park.

Eleven points from the boot of Finn Russell, a try from Stuart Hogg and a further six points via the kicking tee from Duncan Weir earned the Warriors a morale-boosting victory.

Racing, the Top 14 leaders, were missing the likes of Dan Carter, Juan Imhoff, Dimitri Szarzewski, Mike Phillips and Yannick Nyanga from the side who crushed the Scarlets last weekend, rarely sparked into life. The French side still finished as Pool Three winners and a home quarter-final beckons, while Glasgow bow out.

Replacement prop Cedate Gomes Sa touched down for the visitors but Glasgow managed to largely shut the Frenchmen out as the reigning PRO12 champions coasted to the 17-point victory.

"I'm delighted with the result. It was a hard task to achieve but a great result nonetheless," said Townsend.

"From minute one to 80 I thought everyone worked hard against a tough side who came to play. The conditions weren't ideal, the rain really coming down for most of the game which made it tough at times, but I felt we coped well and did what we needed to when it mattered.

"We are obviously disappointed how we ended our Champions Cup experience but we are going out on a high which hopefully can help when we get back to PRO12 duty."

Russell echoed his coach's comments, adding: "It was a hard game, weather did not make it any easier, but it was a great result to end our European Champions Cup season.

"It has been a disappointing Champions Cup for us but the hope is we can use this result now as a springboard and start picking up more results."
