The Highlanders' club culture is renowned throughout rugby circles and just a couple of weeks out from their Super Rugby title defence, it looks to be as strong as ever.

The Dunedin-based franchise travelled to Hong Kong for a pre-season trial with Dan Carter's Racing 92 at the weekend, going down 45-38 Top 14 leaders in a highly-entertaining fixture at the Siu Sai Wan Stadium.

They were in high spirits post match despite the result, with resident team joker Joe Wheeler treating a small group or guests to a rendition of "The Barracuda" -- a musical tribute to cult hero Richard Buckman sung to the tune of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and covered with great success by the late Jeff Buckley.

But the performance took on extra significance in Hong Kong due to Buckman's absence after the outside back was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury.

Watch the hilarious video below!
