October 17, 2000

The IRFU have decided to cancel the proposed development tour to New Zealand next summer.

The Union, in consultation with Warren Gatland and his management team, have decided instead to concentrate on technical and physical development of all squad members who are not included in the Lions tour to Australia. This will mean that Gatland will hold a National training camp during the close season for remaining squad members.

Ireland have also confirmed their remaining touring commitments in the lead up to the 2003 World Cup : 2001 - Romania (1 Test), 2002 - New Zealand; 2003 - Australia, Samoa, Tonga.
