Champion jockey Tony McCoy suffered an injury scare at Taunton after fracturing his ribs after a fall.

McCoy was stood down after falling aboard Laudatory on the final hurdle in the Steve Logan Memorial County Contractors Handicap Hurdle, which was won by Drumshambo.

He was able to walk from the ambulance to the weighing room for a medical examination, but was forced to give up his final ride of the day, Hopeful Start, in the totetrifecta Handicap Chase. McCoy was later taken to Musgrove Park hospital in Taunton for further examination.

"I believe he has got sore ribs," clerk of the course Michael Trickey said. "That is as much as we can ascertain at the moment."

McCoy, who is leading the jockeys' championship with 174 wins this season, is due to ride in four races at Warwick on Saturday.
