Frankel will face a maximum of six rivals when he puts his unbeaten record on the line in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

Sir Henry Cecil's charge ended last season as the highest-rated thoroughbred in the world and has shrugged off an injury scare to take his place in the Group One contest. He has impressed in recent gallops but he will not have things all his own way as top class rivals are in opposition.

Excelebration was beaten on three occasions by Frankel last season, but he has the benefit of a run under his belt and will fly the flag for Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien. O'Brien also has a second string to his bow in Windsor Palace who was a shock winner from St Nicholas Abbey earlier this month.

Richard Hannon has declared Dubawi Gold and the high class Strong Suit, but the latter is not a guaranteed runner on account of concerns about the prospect of soft ground.

Ransom Note, trained by Charlie Hills, is also in the field which is made by Frankel's stablemate and regular work companion, Bullet Train.
