Red Cadeaux bags Yorkshire Cup spoils
Last year's Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux produced a game display to lift the Yorkshire Cup.
Ed Dunlop's charge relishes a fast pace to aim at and he got it at York, as he ran down long-time leader Harris Tweed inside the final two furlongs and pulled clear for a ready success.
Harris Tweed is a game front runner and attempted to make all. He had the majority of his rivals on the stretch three furlongs from home, but Red Cadeaux was always travelling well and stuck his neck out once asked to win the race.
Once mastering Harris Tweed, he shifted sharply to his left but Tom McLaughlin straightened Red Cadeaux up and he was always holding the late thrust of Glen's Diamond.
There was a Royal winner at Newbury as The Queen's Momentary sprang a 33/1 surprise in the Swettenham Stud Fillies' Trial Stakes. With the top two in the market, Starscope and Firdaws running disappointing races, it was left to Momentary and Shirocco Star to fight out the finish.
Shirocco Star looked sure to score when looming up at the furlong pole, but Momentary answered Hayley Turner's every call to score by the narrowest margin.
