Power switched on the afterburners to taste success in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh on Saturday.

Power gave Aidan and Joseph O'Brien a taste of success with a late surge, finishing ahead of Foxtrot Romeo in second and Reply in third.

There looked to be a repeat of the English Guineas disappointment on the cards for for Power as he looked to have been left behind by the storming early pace of Daddy Long Legs and Wrote.

However, their speed waned as the race wore on, allowing the son of Oasis Dream to come through in first.

There was drama earlier on Saturday as race favourite Parish Hall, who will also take no part in the Epsom Derby, missed out due to a leg infection.

At Haydock, favourite Bated Breath took the Temple Stakes by a narrow margin from Sole Power, with third-placed Spirit Quartz well back in third.

Gabrial streaked through the field to win the Betfred Silver Bowl, coming from last to finish first under Jamie Spencer. Lucky Henry was a length-and-three-quarters back, with Switzerland in third.
