Frankel remains firmly on course for the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot after sparkling in a gallop at Newmarket on Wednesday.

The unbeaten colt was accompanied in a gallop by Midsummer Sun, who was partnered by Frankel's race rider Tom Queally. Frankel tracked his work rival for six furlongs before sauntering to the front and skipping a dozen lengths clear with the minimum of fuss.

Frankel had a more serious gallop at Newmarket the week previous, when he was saddled and paraded in the ring. This was a more laid-back effort but it delighted connections.

"This was more informal - he only had one lead horse this time - but he came away nicely clear as he always does," said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Prince Khalid Abdullah.

"Shane (Featherstonhaugh) was on Frankel, Tom was on Midsummer Sun and everything went very well, it was a good bit of work and we were all very happy. It's so far, so good."
