Black Caviar sizzles in Moonee Valley blitz

Australian wonder-mare Black Caviar stretched her perfect record to 24 races with victory in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Peter Moody's superstar, who returned from an injury sustained at Royal Ascot last summer to win the Lightning Stakes last month, was faced with six rivals - including three-time Hong Kong Mile winner Good Ba Ba - but had little trouble in extending her winning sequence.

Racing under lights, Black Caviar jumped on terms and jockey Luke Nolen was happy to take a lead.

She settled in third early on, before easing on to the quarters of Karuta Queen on the turn. Without being asked for any sort of effort, Black Caviar drew level with Karuta Queen and once turning in, Nolen gave a shake of the reins.

The acceleration was instant and it drew gasps from the crowd as within a matter of strides she had put three lengths between herself and her toiling rivals.

There were massed ranks in her salmon and black colours and upon passing the post for her 14th win at the highest level, which equalled the record of Kingston Town for the most Group One victories, confetti was let off by a huge crowd that rivalled that of a Cox Plate day.

"She's going super," Moody said. "It's scary how well she's going.

"It's great to see the people out here and see her put on a wonderful show. That's what it's about now - it's not about the wins, it's about the great publicity she gives the sport in general. For our industry, she's second to none."

Looking to the future, Moody has a trip to Randwick pencilled in on April 13 for the Group One TJ Smith Stakes.

He added: "The only thing that will stop her is wet tracks. All being well, we head off to Sydney for the TJ now."
