The curtain raiser to the 2013 Flat season has been cut down, as the Lincoln meeting at Doncaster has been abandoned on account of snow.

Twelve months ago, racegoers were in shorts and t-shirts as temperatures soared to 23 degrees, but three inches of snow landed on Town Moor overnight - forcing officials to abandon the card.

A contingency plan is in place, with the meeting set to take place next Saturday. But it will likely take place without a host of big-name jockeys absent as it will clash with the Dubai World Cup.

Mark Spincer, managing director at Doncaster, tweeted: "Racing today is abandoned after threes inches of snow and still snowing. We will re-run the card next Saturday with tickets transferred."

There will no turf racing in the UK on Saturday, as Newbury's card has also fallen victim on account of snow.
