Carroll enjoys Ninety Minutes at Kempton

Andy Carroll may not have played a full game for a while, but the injured West Ham striker was handed good news after his horse 'Ninety Minutes' came up trumps in an incident-packed maiden stakes race at Kempton.

Carroll part-owns the horse with team-mate Kevin Nolan and agent Mark Curti. The two-year-old bay colt, trained by John Best, ran out strongly and finished just over a length ahead of Desert Society under jockey Steve Drowne to give punters a 7/1 winner.

However, the seven furlong race was marred as three horses fell in the closing stages.

The Sylvester Kirk-trained Silvercombe edged right in the run-in before falling one furlong out, also bringing down Don Ottavio and Synonym before the finish.

It was later confirmed Silvercombe was put down at the track, while jockey Renato Souza was also taken away on a stretcher.

Meanwhile, jockey Paul Mulrennan was taken to hospital with a suspected broken collarbone and concussion following a heavy fall at Hamilton.

Mulrennan was tossed from his mount Boxing Shadows after the gelding clipped the heels of another horse entering the final furlong of the handicap race. As a result of the incident, the track at Hamilton racecourse was inspected.
