Frankel jockey Queally to part from Lady Cecil yard

Frankel's jockey Tom Queally has revealed he is to leave his job as stable jockey to Lady Cecil's Warren Place yard in order to ride freelance.

Queally rode Frankel - the highest rated horse ever in flat racing - to all 14 of his victories, which included the 2,000 Guineas and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in 2011.

The 29-year-old scored 21 Group One winners for the late Sir Henry Cecil, who died in June. Queally indicated he is looking for new challenges in his career.

"The decision to go freelance is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly, but I feel this is the right time to pursue new challenges," Queally told the Racing Post.

"I would like to thank Lady Jane [Cecil] and her family for their support and all the staff. I look forward to maintaining my links to Warren Place, but I feel that the decision to go freelance will open up other avenues to my career."

Khalid Abdullah, principal owner at Warren Place, confirmed in August that James Doyle would be his retained rider in Great Britain.

Meanwhile, 18-time champion jockey AP McCoy is closing in on his 4,000th winner. The Northern Irishman enjoyed a quick-fire double at Ffos Las on Tuesday to move to 3,991 career wins.
