Arc winner Treve named racehorse of the year

Treve has been named racehorse of the year at the Cartier Racing Awards, beating the likes of 1000 Guineas champion Sky Lantern and Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Al Kazeem to the prestigious award.

Unbeaten Treve, trained by Criquette Head-Maarek, became the first horse since Zarkava in 2008 to win the French Oaks, Prix Vermeille and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in the same season.

The three-year-old filly joins the likes of Frankel, Sea the Stars and Rock of Gibraltar in winning the award.

In September, Treve provided Frankie Dettori with his first Group One winner since he completed his drugs ban. The Italian was due to ride her in the Arc - which she went on to win convincingly by five lengths - but had to withdraw after suffering an ankle injury at Nottingham days prior to the race at Longchamp.

Treve also won the three-year-old Filly award, again seeing off Sky Lantern, Just the Judge and Talent for the prize.

The Queen's horse Estimate won in the Stayer category - the four-year-old filly won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June.

Lethal Force picked up the Sprinter Award, while Irish 2000 Guineas winner Magician triumphed in the three-year-old Colt category.

Trainer Jim Bolger, who has also enjoyed success as an owner and breeder, claimed the award of merit.
