Hurricane Fly sets new world record
Hurricane Fly set a new world record of 17 Grade One wins following victory in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown on Sunday.
The Willie Mullins-trained horse crossed the line first as heavy odds-on favourite to surpass the previous record held by Kauto Star and American horse John Henry.
Jockey Ruby Walsh steered his mount to the memorable victory, beating a field of four other runners to the post. Fellow Mullins-trained horses Marito and Miakel D'Haguenet finished second and third respectively; the former took the runner-up spot under the helm of Walsh's sister Katie.
Hurricane Fly is a double Champion Hurdle winner at the Cheltenham Festival, having won in 2011 and 2013. The gelding is third favourite to retain his crown at the 2014 Festival.
